Prepare and Match: how it works

Prepare and Match (Rusta och matcha) is support from Arbetsförmedlingen where a provider helps you on your way to work or studies. Here are the rules for 2026.

What is Prepare and Match?

Prepare and Match is support for people who have been registered with Arbetsförmedlingen for a longer period. A provider, for example Swefleet, helps you find a job or start studying. The activities are designed around you.

The service is based on the Act on System of Choice in the Public Sector (lagen om valfrihetssystem). This means that you choose which provider you want yourself. The provider is paid by Arbetsförmedlingen, and you pay nothing to take part.

Who can take part?

It is Arbetsförmedlingen that assesses whether you will be offered Prepare and Match. It is not a right. To take part, you must be part of the programme placement efforts (förmedlingsinsatser), and the basic requirements are that you:

  • are registered as a job seeker with Arbetsförmedlingen,
  • are at least 25 years old,
  • are unemployed full-time.

There are exceptions. Young people with disabilities, people over 18 who are far from the labour market and participants in the Job Guarantee for Youth, the Job and Development Guarantee or the introduction programme can also take part. The decision is made during a conversation with Arbetsförmedlingen.

How long does it last?

You take part for six months. Then Arbetsförmedlingen evaluates how it has gone. If they assess that you need more time, the service can be extended by at most six months, so twelve months at the most.

How to choose a provider

  1. You receive the decision during a conversation with Arbetsförmedlingen.
  2. Within five working days you say which provider you want.
  3. On My Pages you make your choice in Search for providers, through the link under My messages. There you can see the providers’ addresses, languages and ratings.
  4. By phone or on a visit to Arbetsförmedlingen, you give the provider’s KA number. Swefleet’s KA number is 10075681 (Arbetsförmedlingen, opens in a new window).

If you do not choose a provider, Arbetsförmedlingen appoints the one that operates closest to where you live. The service starts on the eleventh working day after you have been placed, and the first meeting is an in-person meeting at the provider.

How often do you meet?

The rules come from Arbetsförmedlingen and apply to all providers:

  • An individual meeting every fourteen days with your supervisor. The meeting lasts at least 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on the level of support you have been given.
  • At least every four weeks the meeting is in person, at the provider. The first meeting is always in person.
  • Activities every week in addition to the individual meetings, for example job searching or exercises.
  • Digital meetings take place on Arbetsförmedlingen’s own platform.

What does the provider do?

The provider helps you get prepared for the labour market and matched with jobs or studies. This can include:

  • mapping your experience and goals,
  • a plan with interim goals,
  • help with your CV, cover letter and interviews,
  • study and career guidance,
  • contact with employers, study visits and recruitment events.

Since March 2025 the provider must be in contact with employers on your behalf. Other programmes, for example work experience placement, are not arranged by the provider itself. The provider can suggest them, but Arbetsförmedlingen decides.

Compensation and activity report

When you take part in Prepare and Match, you are in a programme. That is why you can apply for compensation from Försäkringskassan:

  • Activity support: SEK 365 per day, or up to SEK 1,236 if it is based on your previous income.
  • Development allowance if you are aged 18–24 and do not meet the conditions for unemployment insurance (a-kassa): SEK 57 or SEK 206 per day, tax-free.
  • Introduction benefit if you take part in the introduction programme: SEK 335 per day. Read about the changes from 1 September 2026.

You apply between the 1st and the 7th of the month to receive the money the same month. Every month you also submit an activity report to Arbetsförmedlingen, between the 1st and the 14th. The provider can see your two most recent reports.

Since 1 June 2026, your compensation can be suspended straight away, without a warning, if you miss an activity without a valid reason. The first time it is 5 days, then 10 and after that 45 days.

Changing provider

If you are not satisfied with your provider, you can change. You contact Arbetsförmedlingen, and the change takes place after a notice period of 14 calendar days. If you move, you also need to contact Arbetsförmedlingen in good time.

Provider ratings

Arbetsförmedlingen gives providers a rating from one to four stars. The rating is based on how many participants have gone on to work or studies, and takes into account how far from the labour market the participants were. The ratings are shown in Search for providers and on My Pages and are updated every other month.

A provider only gets a rating once it has had at least 18 participants during the measurement period and has been operating for at least twelve months. New providers therefore have no rating at first.

Support in your language

The provider must be able to give you language support while you take part, for example through staff who speak your language or translated material. At Swefleet you can get coaching in Swedish, Arabic, English, Persian, Turkish, Somali, Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian.
