Hiring support 2026: how you can hire with support

Arbetsförmedlingen, the Swedish Public Employment Service, can pay part of the wage cost when you hire someone who has been out of work for a long time or is new to Sweden. Here are the types of employment with support (anställningsstöd) available in autumn 2026.

New start job

The compensation for a new start job depends on the employee’s background and comes in three levels: 1, 2 or 2.5 times the employer’s contributions. You receive compensation for the part of the salary up to SEK 20,000 per month for full-time work.

Who can be hired with a new start job?

  • People aged 20–24 who have been unemployed for at least 6 of the last 9 months.
  • People aged 25 or over who have been unemployed for at least 12 of the last 15 months.
  • Newly arrived people who have had a residence permit for no more than three years and have been unemployed for at least 6 of the last 9 months.

Conditions to be aware of

  • The employment must not start before Arbetsförmedlingen has decided on the support. Apply at least three weeks in advance.
  • You apply yourself using an e-ID.
  • The pay must be in line with a collective agreement and paid out electronically.
  • You must not have made staff redundant due to shortage of work at the same operating unit in the last 12 months.
  • The support does not apply to close relatives of the owner.
  • The support can be given for 6 months up to 2 years, with decisions covering at most one year at a time.

Introductory job

With an introductory job you receive 80 per cent of the wage cost, but only for the part of the salary up to SEK 20,000 per month for full-time work. The support is given for up to 12 months and can be extended to a maximum of 24 months in total.

An introductory job may be relevant for participants in the job and development guarantee (jobb- och utvecklingsgarantin), for people who have been in the job guarantee for young people (jobbgarantin för ungdomar) for at least 200 benefit days, and for some newly arrived people who have turned 20.

Labour market entry agreement

A labour market entry agreement is full-time employment where you as the employer pay a salary of SEK 8,277 per month (2026). The employee also receives compensation from Försäkringskassan, up to SEK 17,019 per month. The employment should normally lead to a permanent position after at most 24 months.

  • Requires you to have a collective agreement on labour market entry agreements and an agreement with the local trade union.
  • It is the person to be hired who applies.
  • Applies to people who have turned 20 and have been unemployed for at least 24 of the last 27 months, are taking part in the introduction programme or have been granted a residence permit in the last 36 months.

Wage subsidy

A wage subsidy is available if you hire someone with a disability that reduces their capacity for work. It comes in three forms: for development in employment, for employment and for security in employment. The subsidy depends on the wage cost and on the capacity for work, and is calculated on the part of the salary up to SEK 20,000 per month for full-time work. The first decision applies for at most one year.

Support that no longer exists

Extra jobs (extratjänster) were phased out in 2022, and vocational introduction employment (yrkesintroduktionsanställning) disappeared during 2024. If you have read about them on older websites, they no longer apply.

How we help you

We introduce candidates who match what you are looking for and tell you which support may be relevant for that particular person. The application is made to Arbetsförmedlingen. If you first want to see how the person works out at your workplace, a work experience placement can be a first step.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get support for someone I have already hired?

For new start jobs, the employment must not start before Arbetsförmedlingen has decided on the support. So apply at least three weeks before the person starts.

How much is 80 per cent in kronor?

With an introductory job you receive 80 per cent of the wage cost, but only for the part of the salary up to SEK 20,000 per month for full-time work. If the salary is higher, the support will be less than 80 per cent of the actual cost.

Do extra jobs (extratjänster) still exist?

No. Extra jobs were phased out in 2022, and vocational introduction employment (yrkesintroduktionsanställning) disappeared during 2024.

Can Swefleet apply on our behalf?

No, the application is made to Arbetsförmedlingen. For new start jobs the employer applies themselves using an e-ID, and for labour market entry agreements the person to be hired applies. We help you understand which support may be relevant for a candidate.
